When Facebook retired its official desktop Messenger app, millions of us got shoved back into a browser tab — one that gets lost among forty others, muted, and quietly throttled in the background. We didn't love that. So we built KausApp: a fast, lightweight desktop client that brings Messenger back to where it belongs.
Status: KausApp is coming soon. You can sign up to be notified at kausapp.com.
What it is
KausApp is a real desktop app for Facebook Messenger that runs natively on macOS, Windows, and Ubuntu Linux. It stays logged in, lives in your tray, and delivers messages the instant they arrive — its own window, its own icon, no tab to lose.
Why it's different from a browser tab
- No more lost tabs. A dedicated app window with notifications and tray presence.
- Instant messages. We disable the background throttling that slows down browser tabs, so notifications land immediately — even when the window is hidden or minimized.
- One app, every platform. The same experience on your MacBook, your Windows PC, and your Ubuntu workstation.
- The full Messenger. Text, emoji, GIFs, stickers and reactions; photos, videos and file downloads with a native save dialog; voice messages; and one-on-one and group voice & video calls.
- Private & direct. KausApp talks straight to the official Messenger service — no middle-man servers, no analytics layer, no scraping. Your conversations stay between you and Meta, exactly as they would in the browser.
Under the hood
KausApp is built on Electron, wrapping the official messenger.com web app — the stable, policy-safe path to Messenger's complete, always-up-to-date feature set. When Meta ships a new Messenger feature, it shows up in KausApp automatically. The renderer is hardened (context isolation on, Node integration off) with a scoped permission model: microphone, camera, and notifications are granted to Messenger, and everything else is denied by default.
About the name
Kausap is the Filipino word for "the person you're talking with" — and "to converse." The capital A in KausApp quietly spells out app: a chat app you talk to people on. Proudly built in the Philippines by Coders Republic.
